What is Hopi Ear Candling?

Also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy, Hopi Ear Candling is a holistic beauty therapy treatment specialising in relief of ear, nose and throat symptoms. It can help with anything from things like hay fever and headaches to wax blockage and even snoring. The treatment works by placing a candle just inside your ear, and lighting the other end for roughly 10 minutes at a time. The heat from the candle creates suction, and this helps to draw out ear wax and other bacterial substances that may have built up.

What can Hopi Ear Candling be used to treat?

Hopi Ear Candling can be used to treat a variety of symptoms, and this list isn’t exhaustive. So if you have a question about any other symptoms you’re experiencing, feel free to get in touch and ask us! Some common symptoms we treat are:

• Blocked sinuses.

• Persistent headaches or migraines.

• Hay fever.

• Sinusitis.

• General cold and flu symptoms.

• Asthma.

• Dizziness.

What are some of the other benefits?

As well as treating ear, nose and throat conditions, Hopi Ear Candling is a very beneficial whole-body treatment.

• As a generally very relaxing treatment, Hopi Ear Candling can also be a great method of relieving stress and anxiety.

• As the treatment targets your circulatory and lymphatic system, it’s a great way of replenishing and rejuvenating for a whole-body experience. It can help increase blood circulation to the head and neck, and balance the energy in your body.

• Did you know it can even help to treat excessive snoring?

What should I expect from a Hopi Ear Candling Session?

Hopi ear candling is designed to be as non-intrusive as possible, and you shouldn’t experience any pain at all! After a brief consultation to discuss your symptoms, you’ll be prompted to lie on one side. A candle will be placed into the first ear and lit at the opposite end. This will last around 10 – 15 minutes whilst the treatment works its magic, after which we’ll clean your ear and move on to the opposite side. In total, your appointment will last around 45 minutes, so you can fit it in around your busy schedule quite easily!

Post treatment, you may experience a few side effects that are generally a good sign the treatment is working. These range from light cold symptoms and headaches to a feeling of ‘stickiness’ in the ear. Whilst they’re all completely normal and nothing to worry about, feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Once your treatment is over, you should try to avoid submerging your head underwater for around 24 hours (so try to opt for a shower instead of a bath, and definitely no swimming!) We also advise drinking plenty of fluids to help replenish your body. One thing to avoid completely is inserting anything into your ear, such as a cotton bud. As a general rule, this can be harmful to your ear anyway and should be avoided, but post treatment can interfere with the effects.

Over the next 24 – 48 hours, we would expect a certain amount of wax to start loosening and falling from your ears. You may want to cover your pillows with a towel to avoid any staining!

Met Emma through breast cancer navigators. What can I say, I am seeing Emma for Scar therapy and issues with lymph node surgery. After 2 visits there is a massive difference in the movement of my arm and the sensitivity from surgery. I don’t know what she does with her hands but she works wonders. I count the days to my next appointment.
